So what are your New Years Resolutions? Some of you will have many… others will have none. I am turning 50 this year so I have 49 years of resolutions experience to share with you. At 2 years old I “Resolved” to stop drooling over technology or guitars, but back then… IPads had safety pins and GigaHertz was a “Pink Belly”. At 10 I resolved to be good at sports… not until the Wii controller was invented was I successful. The rest of the years have been filled with everything that you have promised yourself and did for a little while… and tried again!
Let me help you with a few…
- If you are resolving to lose weight… Start your gym membership in the 2nd week of February. By then, all the ones who have recently joined will have stopped going so regularly.
If you resolved to eat more healthy… Take your Starbucks card and put a post-it note on it… “I would like a black coffee – no cream and sugar”. (Eggnog Latte has 510 calories, 29 grams of fat, 0.5 grams of trans fat, 43 grams of carbs and 39 grams of sugar.)
- If you resolved to spend more time with your family… Join Facebook and get an unlimited texting plan. Ever since our family has joined both (at a cost of $142 monthly – still less than a Eggnog Latte a day)… My wife and I have much closer relations with our kids, siblings, and parents (even if it is to correct us… or dis us on a post, comment or text), but that's more interaction than we had with them last year (I think)!
So as I look back at 2010, I have many memories… Giving speeches to Pooper Scoopers, Crafters and networking groups all over the country! Taught classes from 101 to Masters courses. I have set up dozens of Facebook Landing Pages, Websites, eMail Campaigns, Google Analytics and AdWord Accounts for small to large companies. Most importantly, I have watched Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In and the internet in general, evolve and change at a breakneck pace. So from all of that I want to share what I think can and will help you next year!
Here is my Business List of New Years Resolutions for you…
- If you think Facebook is a fad… change your mind and watch TV! There are virtually NO “Follow Us on Twitter & Linked-In” commercials… and both of the latter are incredibly valuable. Branding your business has changed… Google has analytics and so does Facebook! You need to Interact, “DONT SELL”, and measure the results!
- If your website says ©2009… it's outdated! Even if it says ©2010 it's probably not been updated enough. Look at your customers, sales, and income/balance sheets… and learn where the trends are! Make sure you are marketing to tomorrow.. not yesterday (even if you are not sure who that is)!
- If you have not set a plan… then plan to FAIL! Fail blog is not just a funny website. Years ago I watched a movie called “Future Shock “. It talked about how the rate of change has escalated since the industrial revolution. Is your computer obsolete? Then so is your software and the way you use it! Learn, Grow and be “Part of the Wave”… or sit back and watch it on TV. If you think things changed fast last year… you have no Idea! Plan to change… then change that plan!
I want to take this time to hope you had a FABULOUS holiday season… and wishing you much success in 2011! Stay tuned, Check back often… and Let Me Know if and HOW I can help you in making 2011 the BEST YEAR EVER!
